How to train
A method, not a mood.
Four moves, in order. Do them in short daily sessions and the skill stops feeling random.
Master one reliable structure (essay template for Academic, formal/informal email structure for Core) so you never invent structure under pressure.
Practice compressing a paragraph into one grammatical sentence of appropriate length for Summarize Written Text.
Build a personal list of linking phrases and collocations you can type accurately at speed.
Always reserve time to fix subject–verb agreement, articles, and spelling. Small errors accumulate.
The details
How writing works.
Three things decide how this skill goes. Read them once, then go practise.
Writing is typed on a computer. In PTE Academic, you produce a single-sentence summary (Summarize Written Text) and an argumentative essay (Write Essay). In PTE Core, the essay is replaced with Write Email, focusing on real-world functional communication.
Responses are evaluated on content relevance, form (length and structure), grammar, vocabulary, and spelling. Official trait names and weightings are set by Pearson. Treat coaching checklists as practical guides and verify current criteria on pearsonpte.com.
The highest-leverage habits are: plan before you type, stay inside word limits, and leave 60–90 seconds to proofread. A clean mid-range response usually outscores a flashy draft full of errors.
