How to train

Prioritize Reading & Writing Fill in the Blanks and drag-drop blanks. They appear frequently and build transferable collocation skill.
Practice Re-order Paragraphs with a focus on topic sentences, pronouns, and logical connectors.
For multi-answer MCQs, select only options you can justify; random multi-select is costly if negative marking applies on your form.
Build vocabulary in meaning clusters (cause–effect, contrast, workplace/academic contexts) rather than isolated word lists.

How reading works.
Three things decide how this skill goes. Read them once, then go practise.
Reading items are text-only (no audio). You will complete dropdown or drag-and-drop blanks, choose single or multiple answers, and reorder jumbled paragraphs. Some blank tasks also feed Writing skill scores because you produce or select written language.
PTE Reading rewards precision on short extracts: grammar collocations, discourse flow, and careful option elimination. Section timing is shared across items, so pacing matters as much as accuracy.
Train skimming for main idea, then close reading for local grammar and connectors. Guess strategically when unsure, especially on multi-select items where wrong choices can reduce credit (confirm current scoring rules with Pearson).

Typically you work within an overall Reading section timer rather than a unique countdown on every item. Manage time so later blanks and re-order items are not rushed. Check your test’s on-screen instructions.
