All Australian PTE test cities, the booking steps, the AUD 499 fee, reschedule rules and the ID you need, checked against Pearson’s official pages.

Wobzzy Editorial · PTE preparation ·

Pearson runs PTE Academic test centres across Australia, including Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide and Canberra, with regional cities such as Geelong, Hobart, Darwin and Cairns also covered. You book online through Pearson’s myPTE system, the fee in Australia is AUD 499 including 10% GST, and the dates you see in Pearson’s official finder are live availability, not a published calendar.

Which PTE test do I book for Australia?

Book PTE Academic. Australia’s Department of Home Affairs lists PTE Academic as the accepted Pearson test for visa English requirements, and Pearson’s Australia page states it is accepted for all visa categories that require English proof and by every Australian university. Professional bodies such as AHPRA and ANMAC accept it too.

  • PTE Academic: the test for Australian visas, university admission and professional registration.
  • PTE Core: Pearson’s test for Canadian (IRCC) pathways; it is not the test on Australia’s visa English tables.
  • Confirm the exact score your visa or institution needs before you pay; per-skill requirements changed for tests taken from 7 August 2025.
Home Affairs does not accept remote-proctored (at-home) English tests for Australian visas. Every PTE appointment is taken in person at a test centre.

Which cities have PTE test centres in Australia?

Pearson’s Australia page names Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide and Canberra as its main centre cities, and the network has grown beyond the capitals into regional cities including Geelong, Hobart, Darwin and Cairns. Venues and seat counts change, so Pearson’s live finder, not an old address list or a third-party post, is the only current source for where you can actually sit.

  • Sydney and Melbourne: the biggest centres with the most date options; if you need a specific week, book early.
  • Brisbane and Perth: steady CBD availability; check both city and suburban venues in the finder.
  • Adelaide and Canberra: fewer venues, so lock a date sooner.
  • Hobart, Darwin, Geelong and Cairns: regional coverage; if no local date suits you, the nearest capital is often a same-week alternative.
We deliberately don’t publish venue addresses or centre counts: centres open, close and move. The official Pearson finder shows the current list, prices and next available dates for every city.

How do I book a PTE test in Australia?

Every booking runs through Pearson’s website and your myPTE account. The official flow:

  1. Choose the test: click Book a test, answer where you want to go (Australia) and what you want to do there. Pearson then recommends PTE Academic.
  2. Pick a centre, date and time: enter your city in the finder. Appointments must be at least 24 hours ahead.
  3. Create your myPTE account: enter your details exactly as they appear on your passport, including any middle names in the Given names field.
  4. Answer the booking questions and agree to Pearson’s admission, reschedule and cancellation policies.
  5. Pay by Visa, Mastercard, American Express or Discover; voucher and promo codes are entered at this step.
  6. Submit the order: your appointment appears in myPTE and a confirmation email carries the arrival instructions.

Spot a name error? Pearson lets you correct account details up to 3 days before your test; not after that, and not on test day. Arrive with the ID you booked with: if your account details don’t match your ID at the centre, you can be refused entry with no refund.

How much does the PTE test cost in Australia?

The PTE Academic fee in Australia is AUD 499, including 10% GST. Pearson sets prices per country and confirms the live price at checkout in your myPTE account. The fee is the same nationwide; the city you choose does not change the price.

Can I reschedule or cancel my PTE test in Australia?

You can reschedule for free if more than 14 full calendar days remain before your test. With 14 days or less left, the Reschedule button disappears from myPTE and your only option is to cancel and book again.

  • Reschedule: free with more than 14 full calendar days left; up to 6 reschedules per appointment.
  • Reschedule inside 14 days: not possible; you must cancel and rebook.
  • Cancel more than 14 days out: full refund.
  • Cancel 14 to 7 days out: 50% refund.
  • Cancel with 7 days or less: no refund.

These rules come from Pearson’s cancellation and rescheduling policy (last updated 17 September 2026). If illness or a family emergency hits, Pearson accepts an emergency reschedule request with evidence, at its discretion.

AUD 499 is at stake every time you book. Pick a date with a real preparation window and, if your first score might miss, a retake plan that stays outside the no-refund zone.

What ID do I need to book and sit the PTE test?

Your passport is the standard ID. The name on your myPTE account must match it exactly, middle names included, and you present the same document at the centre. If you don’t hold a passport, check Pearson’s ID policy for accepted alternatives before you book, not on test day.

How quickly do PTE results come back?

Most test takers receive their PTE Academic score within 2 business days, sometimes up to 5, and the score report appears in myPTE. The booking is the part Pearson controls; the score is the part you do, which is why timed practice belongs before the payment, not after it.
