Test day

PTE test-day checklist: what to do before, during and after

Use this PTE test-day checklist to prepare calmly: booking details, identification, sleep, arrival, microphone confidence and post-test next steps.

Wobzzy Editorial · PTE preparation ·

Test day should not be the first time you think about your keyboard, microphone, timing or concentration. A simple checklist lets you spend your energy on English instead of preventable stress. Always use Pearson’s current instructions as the final authority.

The day before

  • Check your booking, location, route and required identification.
  • Prepare what the official test-centre instructions require—nothing more, nothing less.
  • Do a short confidence practice set, then stop early.
  • Sleep and eat normally; do not change your routine because of exam nerves.

During the test

Follow staff instructions, listen carefully to the on-screen guidance and keep moving after an imperfect response. You are not trying to rescue one item; you are protecting the rest of your performance.

Why full mocks help

A faithful mock cannot reproduce every test-centre detail, but it can make the section order, task changes, recorder behaviour and time pressure familiar. That familiarity gives you more mental space when the real test begins.

Use official information for rules and requirements

Preparation platforms can help you rehearse, but Pearson remains the authority for current format, policies, test-day requirements and score reporting. Before booking, check the current Pearson page and the official website of the university, visa authority or regulator that will receive your result.

Turn format knowledge into calm

Reading a list of task types is only the first step. Use free Wobzzy drills to become familiar with the instructions and timers, then complete full mocks to practise transitions and recovery. Familiarity is what stops a new screen or a rushed item from stealing attention on test day.

The principle that protects progress

Change one or two behaviours at a time. A new template, a new platform, a new teacher and a new schedule all in the same week make it impossible to learn what actually helped. Keep the practice environment stable long enough to see a real pattern, then adjust with evidence.

A practical way to use this advice this week

  1. Choose one task or decision from this guide instead of trying to change everything at once.
  2. Complete a short timed practice set under the same conditions you will use again tomorrow.
  3. Review the result while it is still fresh and write down one pattern you can observe.
  4. Use the next session to practise that one correction deliberately.
  5. At the end of the week, use a full mock or representative task to check whether the change survived pressure.

Common mistakes that slow progress

  • Collecting advice and platforms without giving one method enough time to work.
  • Treating a single score, difficult question or bad recording as a final judgment.
  • Practising only favourite tasks instead of the behaviour that limits the target score.
  • Skipping review, then repeating the same mistake with more effort the next day.
